Computer controlled moisture regulating instrument built on taking real moisture content

Our firm has experiences of several decades in measuring and controlling the moisture content of grain.

Hundreds of the DNSZ-Digital Moisture regulators manufactured by us operate today in Hungary and in the neighbouring countries in grain drying towers of the following types: B1-15, B2-20, SIROKKÓ 20, SIROKKÓ 2000, DSZP-32 ( Russian), LSO(Czech), VSZ, POBEDA (Yugoslav), Riela, Petkus (German), Bentál etc. These moisture regulating instruments take continuously the moisture content of the grain dried in the drying tower and regulate the operation in conformity to the moisture percentage set by the operator.

Our latest development, the DNSZ MP-03type moisture regulating instrument includes the currently most advanced solutions; installed in a RIELA type drying it obtained silver medal at the Agricultural Fair in Hanover and was given Certificate of Recognition at the Agro-Mashexpo in 2004.

The computer controlled DNSZ MP-04 device meets the requirements of the day;
DNSZ MP-04  regulates the time during which the grain passes through the dryer, ensuring that the grain leaving the drier has the required moisture content.
The well developed MENU system and password of DNSZ MP-04 ensure during the operation that the various management and operator levels can perform the setting and control of the machine.

In the regulator DNSZ MP-04 the measured values and operation data during drying are stored in the lasting memory of the micro-computer (12960 data lines and 20 data/line, with 10-minute sampling); these values can be queried in the latest 90-day interval and the data can be transferred to PC computer with the help of optionally available storage unit.
With the use of DNSZ MP-04  use it is possible to save the data in-line on PC computer through an RS-232 serial line.

The DNSZ MP-04 device measures and stores at 16 places the moisture content and temperature of the drained grain (concurrently those of the average of minimum 2m³ material), at the lower part of the drying zone (min. 2 m³) the current date and time, the identifier of the operator of the tower
the datum of the storage unit
the set (required ) moisture percentage
the type of the dried grain

Based on the above data the DNSZ MP-04 device controls the entire drying process thus ensuring the optimum result and it also ensures that the required moisture content is exactly achieved. The tests performed by the German DLG institute, the internationally most recognised institute for testing agricultural machines also established, that in comparison to regulators of other types, with the processing of the above data the DNSZ MP-04 regulator saves further 15% energy.

Further useful service provided by regulator MP-04 is that by storing the measured data (continuous logging) it provides the possibility to promptly and subsequently evaluate and control the draying process, identify possible defects and their consequences and establish responsibility. With the help of the PC spreadsheet or optionally selected evaluating programme the responsible manager of the drying plant can process the entire drying cycle.

It is also possible to use an optionally ordered provisional storage capacity, which, when attached to a serial port of the regulator reads all the stored data and the data thus registered
can be transported anywhere and attached to the serial port of a standard PC  and so the data can be loaded into the computer for storage and further processing.

The effects of over-drying

  • As the grain must be dried for storage, over-drying primarily for safety consideration are as follows:
  • The nominal performance of the dryer drops resulting to reduced capacity;
  • In the final drying phase the energy cost the reduction every 1% moisture keeps on increasing;
  • The grain will be overheated, causing loss in its quality;
  • Over-drying means loss in weight

The economic effects of over-drying

  • As explained above it is possible to estimate the surplus cost of over-drying by the tower dryers
  • The drop in nominal performance with 2% over-drying will cause 11-14% drop in capacity, and that in turn means 2-3 hours additional drying time for the same performance during 24 hours
  • 2% over-drying will require 12% more energy
  • Over-heating will deteriorate quality, leading to lower sales price which is difficult to estimate as it will depend on the specific case.

Summary
One can deduct from the effects of over-drying that

  • Costs will increase during the entire drying period –due to capacity drop- by some 11-14 %
  • The surplus cost for energy alone will be some 12-15%

Because of the above reasons there is a need for a regulating device suited to eliminate subjective defects and the sudden changes in the moisture content of grain fed into the dryer, so the dryer can operate with the least possible loss.
